PRE-ORDER: SHIPS 28 FEBRUARY
Discover the Los Angeles that inspired Joan Didion, one of America’s most distinctive literary voices. In 1964, Didion left New York for the sprawling, sun-soaked landscape of L.A. – a city that profoundly influenced her writing for the next two decades.
This beautifully designed fold-out guide showcases over 30 significant locations, including Didion’s homes, workplaces, and the real-life settings featured in her essays and novels.
Whether you’re a longtime fan or new to her work, this guide provides a unique journey through Los Angeles – revealing how the city helped to shape Didion’s literary legacy.
Also available, exclusive to Herb Lester customers, an A5 art print featuring the Ferus Gallery: During its brief existence from 1957 to 1966, the gallery brought modern art to Los Angeles. The small storefront hosted exhibitions by Ed Ruscha, Donald Judd, Frank Stella, Robert Rauschenberg, Jasper Johns, Roy Lichtenstein, and with Campbell’s Soup Cans, in July 1962, Andy Warhol’s first solo pop art show. The gallery galvanised the L.A. art scene, bringing in new collectors such as the actor Dennis Hopper, whose collection was well known to Didion.
